God is GOOD (Overwhelmed and so much more)

If someone were to analyze my brain they would find the statement, ‘God is GOOD’ running on repeat number one.  God is Good!  We know that.  Those of us born in ‘Christian circles’ grow up hearing that all of our lives and, in many cases, we forget the Truth that that simple statement holds.  We (myself included) forget the power in which that statement holds.

Perhaps that is why I have been at loss for words lately in describing what God has been doing in my life.  Personally, for someone who spends their days in ESL related classes and textbooks being taught by professors with years of ESL teaching experience, all while coming up with lesson plans ranging from grammar to vocabulary, I find this fact ironically amusing.  One would think that my own English knowledge, and vocabulary, would have increased.  However, I am reminded that there truly are no words in our English language that describes who God is.  To me, being lost for words at how good God is, speaks to the character of who God is and His unexplainable love for you and I.  God made this especially clear to me a few nights ago as I felt tears of joy stream down my face.

I attended a night of praise and worship and testimony sharing from the Watoto African Children’s Choir.  This particular choir/group of kids was from Uganda, Africa yet their stories were stories that I have heard all too often while in Africa. Specifically in Zambia (in 2011/2012) and Swaziland in April 2014.  Stories of abuse, neglect and abandonment.  Stories of parents dying, whether in childbirth, malnutrition or because of the HIV running rampage through their bodies.  In the end, there is a generation of children who are growing up parentless.  However, like those kids/youth in Zambia, this group from Uganda reminded me of who our true Father is, regardless of if a person has parents here on earth.  They reminded me of our Father who never leaves us nor forsakes us.  A Father who says that His “eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 139:16) and who “works for the good of all those who love Him” (Romans 8:28).  A Father who is Good, Pure and Holy.  Through listening to their songs, I was reminded of my own identity in Christ and the power I hold, simply because I believe in God and I have His Spirit within me.

In less than 35 days, my feet will be back on the soil at Grace Academy in Northern Zambia.  The sheer thought of that alone, sends an unexplainable joy through me.  I cannot wait to get back there and pour into the people of Zambia.  I cannot wait to continue to live out James 1:27, “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you” (NLT), in a very practical, ‘hands on’ sort of way.

When I was first ‘presented’ with this opportunity to return to Grace to teach, I knew God had something greater in mind beyond the walls of teaching English in a classroom.  This past week, I began to gain a greater understanding as to the ‘why is He calling me back now?’ question.  Although I cannot go into much more detail, my heart has already been ‘broken’ and is once again, very heavy even before stepping foot on the soil.  So, I am asking for your continual prayers as this situation involves a young teenage girl in Zambia, who is VERY close to my heart.  Please join me in praying for a joint understanding and for healing to happen.  For a courage and a boldness to say what needs to be said.  That ultimately, it will be God’s Truth that will flow from my lips and God’s love, from my heart.  Thank you so much and join me in Praising God for the work He has already done, is still doing and will continue to do!

Help me get fully funded (birthday wishes)

A week and one day from today, I will be celebrating my 27th birthday,

This year, all I want for my birthday is to be full funded  for my missions trip to Africa at the end of April.  I am praying (and believing) that that will happen.  God has already shown me that it is indeed very possible and I am very thankful to those, who have already supported me in this journey.  Your support has been overwhelming and God continues to open up my eyes in how He provides for His children.

Now since I am turning 27 (I know, I am getting ‘old’), I thought it would be a neat fundraiser if people donated $27 towards my account at Seeds of Hope.  The neat thing is, for $27 you will STILL get a charitable tax receipt as any donation over $25 qualifies for one!!  AND although Seeds of Hope is Canadian based, they DO have an office in USA which means Americans are ALSO able to receive a charitable tax donation for anything given over $25.  So it is a ‘win win’ for both you and me!!  The even cooler thing is that, if only 52 (yes 52) people gave $27 I would be FULLY FUNDED!!!  Now, I know I know more than 52 people.  In fact, I spent last year traveling with OVER 52 people while on the World Race.

I have included important information about donating (either through a cheque/check in the mail or online via pay pal) so I would like to put that challenge out there to the internet world!

This year, for my birthday, all I want to be is full funded for Africa.  Would you please help me in that?

A Calm in the Middle of the Storm

Recently, I have been reminded of the delicacy of life and yet, scripture is so clear on this.

James 4:14 states that, “How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog--it's here a little while, then it's gone” (NLT)

“Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away” (James 4:14, NASB)

Proverbs 27:1
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.

Psalm 39:5
You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure.

Tomorrow is not a guarantee.  These verses definitely put this into a different perspective and makes me ask, “what am I doing with my life?” Am I really making each and every moment, each and every breath that I take, count?!?  I would like to say, “yes of course I am” but truth be told, I wonder if I really am.

This past week and a half or so, I’ve been finding myself at a point where I am begging God to simply take control, trusting that in Him, all things WILL work out for the GOOD.  I know they will, they always do.  God has proved that to me time and time again, despite the fact that He doesn’t even have to prove anything to me.  But still, He reminds me of this.  That He is alive and moving.  His spirit is here and it’s changing lives.  All He is requiring of me, is to love Him and to trust Him.

That’s it. There is no ‘magic’ formula or scale, simply trust and love.

Guess what, it is also one of the most freeing experiences and emotions that I have ever felt.  In the center of the storm, there is peace.  There is grace.  There is redemption. There is FREEDOM and there is love.

So yes, life itself is ‘fleeting’, here today and gone tomorrow.  But GOD is constant.  God does not change.  In the center of the storm, HE is there waiting.  Waiting for me (and you) to call on Him.  Arms opened wide, waiting for His children to come back to Him.

*Bethel has a song that has been speaking a lot of TRUTH into my life lately and I wanted to share it with you HERE. I pray that it will help serve as a reminder of who God is*
